About Intentional 50

Intentional 50  began as a place for Mistinguette Smith  to document her journey to arrive at the age of  fifty differently. Rather than fearing  this marker of midlife, she approached it as a threshold, a place where life changes from one kind of journey to another. Now, it’s a place where she shares what she’s  thinking about from the perspective  of the Decade of Mastery . She is  looking for good company to travel with her along this road.

You can send a note to MistinguetteS @ gmail.com, or follow me on Twitter @ MistinguetteS. But certainly leave a comment, so I know what you were thinking while you were here.

    Mistinguette –

First of all, that picture of you is absolutely gorgeous.

I love this idea and I look forward to reading your blog. Your thoughts about choosing the life you want to live resonate with things I’ve been thinking about recently. Especially at this time when I plan to finish the doctorate and am thinking about what comes next, there seem to be a lot of expectations (my own and others’) about what the next step is. It’s a new practice for me to take time to assess my own feelings and reactions rather than to listen first to outside pressures.

So even though it isn’t the same journey, I’d love to keep you company on this road.

    Many blessings,

Different journey, same road. Glad to be on it with you.

Although closer to intentional 40, your thoughts always speak to me and go right to the heart of the matter. They express an honesty that is a rare commodity in this day and age, one that I appreciate so much. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to see new realms and perspectives through your words and experiences. I look forward to the teachings yet to come…

    Love to you and Renee…

Six months to go for me to reach this milestone and still pondering how to make the best of it. No apprehension, no regret. Only gladness for the opportunity to pass this milestone and gain from it – and for life itself! I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Inspire me — what do you hope to have gained by the time you reach 50?

The simple solid recidivist grief in the face of the ordinary state violence you compress so skillfully – and then the logic not of rioting but presenting committed bodies in another way. The contextual differences between Ferguson and Cleveland – not visible to most viewers from multiple kinds of afar. I learned how to talk about – or rather, to listen about – rioting a different way. Thank you.
